5th Future-Ready Lawyer report | In Principle

Wolters Kluwer has published its fifth report on the changes, opportunities and challenges lawyers face around the world. This year’s survey included 700 lawyers working in law firms, legal departments and consulting companies in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. What are its implications?

This year’s report, entitled “Embracing innovation, adapting to change,” identifies the top trends for 2023:

• Use of generative artificial intelligence at work—with all its advantages and disadvantages
• Further growth of lawyers’ productivity thanks to technology (87% of respondents said technology has improved their daily work)
• Challenges of recruiting and retaining employees (who have their own demands, for example for how work is organised in the firm)
• The need to meet clients’ ESG requirements (clients need advice in this area, but not all law firms provide it)
• The need to formalise DEIB issues (diversity, equity, inclusivity and belonging).

It is worth taking a look at the report to see where we are ahead of the market and where it is time to catch up.
